A landing page: keep a one-off action simple

A mobile landing page is often the simplest starting point when the objective is to explain an offer and complete one action in a browser. It avoids making installation a prerequisite.

Test whether adding an installation step creates useful return visits or merely adds friction. The relevant comparison is accepted outcomes per unit of spend, not the number of interfaces in the funnel.

A PWA: a web experience with a return path

A PWA can offer a home-screen entry and an app-like experience on supported devices while retaining web delivery. This can suit a recurring mobile journey when browser capabilities meet the product’s needs.

Installation behavior, permissions and background capabilities vary. Offline behavior only exists where it has been implemented; an external offer that needs a connection does not become offline merely because the shell is cached.

A native app and an APK are not synonyms

A native application is built for a platform’s application environment and can use the capabilities that platform exposes under its rules. Distribution, review, maintenance and updates are part of the product decision.

An APK is an Android package format, not a competing business strategy and not an iPhone format. A WebView is a component that displays web content inside an app. Calling a PWA an APK or treating every WebView app as equivalent obscures the actual deployment and measurement differences.

Compare four practical constraints

  • User task: one action, recurring use or a feature that depends on device integration.
  • Distribution: direct web access, installation instructions or a platform-store route.
  • Engineering: who maintains the app, fixes browser changes and tests releases.
  • Measurement: which events can be observed reliably and connected to accepted outcomes.

Make a decision with a controlled comparison

For a one-off form, begin by testing a mobile landing page. For a useful return journey that fits supported web capabilities, evaluate a PWA. For platform-specific requirements, investigate a native implementation with a qualified development team.

Keep offer, audience and measurement definitions comparable. Include development, maintenance, advertising and service costs; there is no universal cost or conversion advantage. Use the PWA cost model and the builder checklist to evaluate the PWA option.
